Police reports state that the two women, who are both from St. Louis, allegedly forcibly removed a 78 year old female resident of the facility from the nursing home and into the parking lot. Apparently the two women had also dropped the victim onto a table. They then began to batter the woman in the parking lot. Police were called and reported to the disturbance call, finding both of the women there in the parking lot, getting into a vehicle. The two were arrested and charged with aggravated battery, a class three criminal felony in the state of Illinois. They are both in jail still, on $50,000 bond each.

After the incident the elderly victim was transported to a nearby Hospital in Bellevue and was treated for injuries.

In Lafayette, Louisiana, a family has accused a nursing home of abusing a 93-year-old resident. His family became suspicious when they began to notice bruises accumulating on his body over the course of several months, and when they saw a black eye and bloody nose, they became extremely concerned. They were told that the bruises were from a fall, but that explanation was not good enough for the victim’s daughter. “They said he might have fallen. I said no way because if he had fallen they would have had to get him up because he can’t maneuver at all. He can’t get himself up. He can’t do anything,” she said. She documented her father’s injuries by taking pictures.

While the family suspects a particular staff member, no one has been charged yet, and the investigation has not been completed yet.

When the investigation is completed, if a staff member is found to have abused the resident and caused his significant injuries, that individual and the nursing home could face charges. The person responsible could face criminal charges and civil charges as well if the family chooses to pursue a civil case.
