Recent Missouri Motorcycle Accidents in 2013

There have already been many motorcycle accidents in Missouri this year. And it seems that just about every week that list is getting longer.

Unfortunately, many of these accidents have been fatal for the motorcyclists. Missouri drivers should be aware and extra cautious around motorcyclists, as should anybody who operates a motorcycle.

An accident was fatal for one couple in an accident that happened in April in Eldon, Missouri. The wife was riding passenger on the Harley Davidson her husband was driving. They were traveling along Highway 87 on April 16. Reports say that at some point, near the Lake of the Ozarks, he lost control of the bike, crossed over the center line and crashed into an SUV. Both riders were thrown from the bike. The crash was devastating and both of them were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

The police investigation did not uncover any evidence that showed drugs and/or alcohol were a contributing factor in the collision.

And on March 16, a motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a car in Bonne Terre. A 69-year-old man was thrown from his bike when he crashed into a stopped car. He was taken to a local hospital with very serious injuries, and passed away very shortly. The driver of the car he hit was not hurt.

Another accident in January left a motorcycle rider and his passenger seriously injured. The accident happened during morning rush hour. The 35-year-old man was riding his motorcycle on Belt Highway, heading north with his 23-year-old passenger.

According to the St. Joseph Police Department, he was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. As he was driving he inadvertently hit another northbound driver. Upon impact, he was ejected from the passenger seat as he lost control of the motorcycle and it fell sideways and slid into the highway’s southbound lane. As this happened he was also thrown from the bike and the bike clipped the front of another vehicle. Both were taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, suffering from very serious injuries. Thankfully, no one else was injured in the crash, according to police spokesman who arrived on the scene after the accident.
